The Mental Health Initiative’s goal is to improve the integration of medical, mental and behavioral health care for children and adolescents in Kentucky. We aim to increase child health providers’ knowledge on children’s mental health issues; strengthen the referral and communication process between professionals; and eliminate barriers to children’s mental and behavioral health services.

Four-hour training sessions are scheduled regionally across the state for primary care health providers and mental health professionals. Online Training
Child & adolescent mental & behavioral health training will be available online in 2008. The online learning format will include training modules in the internalized and externalized mental health disorders. Stay tuned for more information.
Pediatric Residency Training
Comprehensive educational training and resources are provided to local pediatric residency programs. The curricula address the identification and management of mental and behavioral health and substance abuse problems and disorders with special emphasis on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity, affecting between 5-7% of the child and adolescent population.
