Communities of Promise

What is a Community of Promise?

A Community of Promise is dedicated to fulfilling the Five Promises* for every child and youth in their community. A Community of Promise is a community where youth are a policy priority; where there is an effective cross-sector collaboration working on behalf of children and youth; and where young people are valued and fully engaged as leaders and resources.

Communities of Promise share the common vision that...
  • Children are healthy and have access to quality, comprehensive health care.
  • Young people are valued and have access to the support, resources and opportunities they need to be fully prepared for adulthood.
Communities of Promise believe that...
  • Every child and youth needs the Five Promises to be fully prepared for adulthood.
  • Young people are resources and leaders-part of the solution, not the problem.
  • Fulfilling the Five Promises for every child and youth requires every sector of the community working together - family, school, faith-based, business, nonprofit, and government.
Communities of Promise are committed to...
  • Coordination. Supporting an infrastructure that fosters cross-sector collaboration, communication, and connection among youth services within the community to increase effectiveness and maximize resources.
  • Accountability. Adopting the Five Promises as the framework for visioning, common outcomes, and strategic planning.
  • Youth Involvement. Engaging young people as resources and leaders in their community.
