Opportunities to Serve

Engaging young people as resources and leaders!

Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is made up of fifteen high school and university students from all across the state. The YAC members work with the KCN Board of Directors on decisions and policies that impact Kentucky’s youth; they provide leadership for the annual Great Kids Summit; they promote youth involvement in their school and community; and they participate in state and local community service projects. Members are recruited every August through an application process.

Global Youth Service Day
Kentucky Child Now, named lead agency by Youth Service America, will engage youth in service and service-learning projects during Global Youth Service Day (April 25-27, 2008) - the largest service event in the world. Thousands of young people from all across Kentucky, with the help of parents, mentors, teachers, and volunteers will address unaddressed community needs through service and service-learning projects addressing school violence, climate change, disaster relief, literacy, poverty, and urban decay.

Youth, organizations, and communities will have access to technical assistance, resources, incentives and awards to support and encourage participation.
