Signs of Suicide

Did you know that Kentucky ranks 12th nationally in suicide deaths? In fact, suicide is the second leading cause of death for 12-24 year-old youth in our state!

Kentucky Child Now has partnered with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services to offer Kentucky's middle and high schools a FREE national suicide prevention toolkit--Signs of Suicide, a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMSHA) best practices program. Through a federal grant, a limited number of these toolkits are being provided to qualified schools.

Signs of Suicide is a prepackaged toolkit that walks educators and mental health providers through the delivery of this program from planning to implementation. Based on the acronym ACT (Ask, Care, Tell), the toolkits are designed specifically for middle school and another for high school. The program has quite a bit of flexibility for implementation in your local site, and is generally implemented in 1-2 class periods.
